Former Colleague, Pierre Kerszberg, Passes Away
Born in Bruxelles, the philosopher Pierre Kerszberg passed away on September 18, 2026 at the age of 72, following a long and painful illness. After completing his studies at Université Libre de Bruxelles, where he brilliantly defended his thesis under the direction of Marc Richir, Kerszberg taught in Australia, the United State – at Penn State University – and in France at Université de Toulouse, where he was Dean until his retirement. As a recognized specialist in the philosophy of science and phenomenology, Kerszberg is the author of several important books such as Critique and Totality (SUNY Press, 1997), Kant et la nature (Belles Lettres, 1999), L’ombre de la nature (Cerf, 2009), Les Premiers Gestes du Savoir (Millon, 2014), and more recently Les trajets intérieurs de la musique (Garnier, 2021). Those who knew Pierre well remember him as a subtle and modest scholar who worked to reconcile science and philosophy. His works will be future classics because of their solidity and breadth. They will certainly guarantee for Pierre a lasting posterity for those who have devoted themselves to reflecting on the reciprocal influence of phenomenology and the most advanced natural sciences.
