Professional Bio

Derek Aggleton does interdisciplinary work across the history of philosophy, including focuses on Plato, twentieth century European philosophy, ethics, and politics. His current research investigates what ontology can tell us about moral psychology. Through these connections he is developing a hermeneutic for understanding various current social and political problems, especially which respect to how discourse is guided by concealed moral dispositions that are more fundamental than (and in fact configure) the set of particular beliefs and values that one usually ascribes to oneself.  He is currently teaching CAS 100A and has a forthcoming article entitled “The Disunity of Factical Life: An Ethical Development in Heidegger’s Early Work” (Gatherings: the Heidegger Circle Annual, Vol. 6, 2016).
