General University Park Information

University Park Campus is the hub for graduate work in most fields and enrolled more than 6,600 advanced degree students in 1992-93. A total of 10,441 students were enrolled for graduate work at all campuses.

University Park is located in the municipality of State College, Pennsylvania. Penn State is a coeducational, land-grant university situated in the geographical center of Pennsylvania in Centre County. State College is a typical university town with a population of about 39,000. The beautiful mountain country surrounding the community has many scenic recreational areas. The community and University work together to offer a variety of cultural programs.

Penn State began granting master's degrees in 1863—when it became the first american institution to confer a graduate degree in agriculture—and awarded its first Ph.D. in 1926. Today graduate studies lead to eighteen academic and professional degrees in 150 fields.
