Sarah Carey

Professional Bio

Sarah Carey is a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) in Philosophy at The Pennsylvania State University. She earned a B.A. in Philosophy with minors in Comparative Literature and French from the University of Oregon in 2016, and an M.A. in Philosophy from Penn State in 2021. Her dissertation, titled "A Promise to Witness Faithfully: Complex Communication Across Incommensurable Differences in Lugones and Derrida" develops a theoretical-practical account of coalitional communication across differences by putting into conversation María Lugones’s decolonial feminism and Jacques Derrida’s deconstruction. She has served as Vice President and as President of the Philosophy Graduate Student Organization. For the 2022-2023 academic year, she was a Dissertation Fellow with the Center for Democratic Deliberation in the McCourtney Institute for Democracy, and in the summer of 2023, she was a Graduate Student Resident in the Humanities Institute.
