Requirements
All options within the philosophy major require a total of 30 credits as follows:
I. Core Requirements (9 credits):
Any three PHIL courses at the 200 level
II. Options (21 credits)
A. General Philosophy Option (21 credits):
- PHIL 012
- Any two PHIL courses at the 00 or 100 level
- Any one PHIL course at the 200 level
- Any three PHIL courses at the 400 level
B. Justice, Law, and Values Option (21 credits):
- PHIL 010 or 012
- PHIL 105
- Any one additional PHIL course at the 00 or 100 level
- One course from: PHIL 403, 405, 406, 407, 408, 418, 420, 425, 432, 433, 438
- Any one additional PHIL course at the 400 level
- Two courses from: AAAS 409, AAAS 465, CAS 321, COMM 403, HIST 449, HIST 450, L ST 370, PL SC 403, PL SC 412, PL SC 415, PL SC 431, PL SC 432, PL SC 451, PL SC 470, PL SC 471, PL SC 472, PL SC 473, PL SC 474, PL SC 475, WMNST 423, WMNST 453
C. Humanities and Arts Option (21 credits):
- PHIL 010 or 012
- Any two PHIL courses at the 00 or 100 level
- One course from: PHIL 401, 402, 409, 413, 422, 424, 429, 435
- Any two PHIL courses at the 400 level
- One three-credit course at the 400 level in a related arts or humanities discipline (in consultation with advisor)
D. Philosophy of Science and Mathematics Option (21 credits):
- PHIL 012
- Any two PHIL courses at the 00 or 100 level
- One course from: PHIL 407, 410, 412, 425, 426, 427
- Any two PHIL courses at the 400 level
- One three-credit course at the 400 level in a related mathematics or science discipline (in consultation with advisor)
E. Social Sciences Option(21 credits):
- PHIL 012
- Any two PHIL courses at the 00 or 100 level
- One course from: PHIL 401, 408, 415, 416, 425, 438
- Any two PHIL courses at the 400 level
- One three-credit course at the 400 level in a related social science discipline (in consultation with advisor)
F. Professional Studies Option (21 credits):
- PHIL 010 or 012
- Any two PHIL courses at the 00 or 100 level
- One course from: PHIL 405, 406, 418, 423, 431, 432, 433, 435
- Three three-credit courses at the 400 level in a professional area outside of philosophy (in consultation with advisor)
